Leona LaurenLeona Louise Lewis (born 3 April 1985) is a British singer, songwriter also known as actress, and activist. Born in Islington, a part of the London Borough of Islington, she went to her school at the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in Croydon. Lewis achieved national recognition after she won the third and final season of The X Factor 2006 and was awarded a contract of PS1 million and Syco music. The winning single, which was an original cover song by Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This" reached the top spot for four weeks on UK Singles Chart and broke the world record for 50,000 digital downloads within thirty minutes. Clive Davis's label, J Records, signed Lewis to a 5-album deal with J Records in the United States. Lewis has continued to be successful with Spirit Her first studio album. It sold 10x platinum recognized in the UK. This album became one of the top four albums sold in 2000, and it was also one of the best-selling UK albums. It is reported by the Official Charts Company claims that Spirit was the most successful 21st century album for a debut female. The album's first single "Bleeding Love" was on top of the UK charts for seven consecutive weeks before becoming the single with the highest sales in 2007. In the US, it was the highest-selling single of 2008 . Lewis was named Best New Artist by Billboard in the same year. Her debut album was Echo in 2009 and made "I See You" to be the film's theme song. In 2011, Lewis released the single "Collide" which was a collaboration together with Swedish DJ Avicii, and her debut extended play, Hurt: The EP. Her third studio album, Glassheart (2012), brought a brand new direction to her music for Lewis, drawing the inspiration of dubstep and electronic music. The Glassheart Tour was in the middle of 2013, when she started recording material to make her first Christmas album. The following year, her Christmas with Love, which featured the single that was released as the album's lead track "One more sleep" came in at number three on the charts in the UK. By releasing this chart entry Lewis made history as the only British female artist to reach the top five , with eight singles, surpassing Olivia Newton-John's record set by seven.
